No Arrows! + Bonus Icon Browser Tweaks

Just tossing this in a journal for easier writing than a plurk or something...

OKAY. SO. ARROWS. They are a thing now, apparently.

I get what they're trying to do, buuuut yeaaaah... aesthetically it's a bit of a mess, and goodness, do large clusters of tags become really tough to read. So! I borrowed a code I'd pieced together (see disclaimer at the bottom) for a similar problem that will hide them. :D

HOWEVER, this isn't perfect. It kinda still leaves a gap between the commas that I don't think can do anything about, but this definitely looks a bit better in the meanwhile. Also you might briefly see the arrows sometimes before the script kicks in, but if happens, it's usually only for a second.

But yes, this is how it looks after the script:

SO. To use this script, you're gonna need either Greasemonkey for Firefox.

► Downloaded here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/

OR

Tampermonkey for Chrome!

► Download here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tampermonkey/dhdgffkkebhmkfjojejmpbldmpobfkfo?hl=en

Installation Instructions!

Firefox:

Click on the monkey icon that appeared and select "New User Script". Then in the boxes put in this info:

Name: No Tag Arrows
Namespace: http://www.winddrifter.com
Description: Hides all those pesky ← → arrows.
Includes: http://*.dreamwidth.org/*

Then okay, and it'll bring up an editor... Now delete everything that's already there, then when you first paste the text, it'll bring up some pasting warning. Yeesh. Type Allow Pasting like it says, then delete that and you can now ctrl-v away. Hit save. Reload a DW page... that should do it. :)

Chrome:

Click on the... odd icon that is Tampermonkey and select "Add a new script..." Then just copy-paste the following in and hit the disk icon to save it. Bam, done. Reload a DW page, and should be good. :D

HERE IS THE SCRIPT:

LASTLY, both addons have icons in the browser that let you easily enable and disable scripts, so if you want to use the arrows on occasion, it's easy to make them visible again. :3

BONUS ICON BROWSER TWEAKS!

Now this is for good ol' stylish. I created this awhile ago cause I disliked the icon overload that was the new browser. It apparently is still working, so... figured I'd share. OR WELL, it was sorta working. Fixed to work better now, and compatible & fixes some stuff with the Chrome extension Dreamwidth tools. Tested on both browsers.

This makes the large icon display width display 4 icons at a time on a 1366x768 monitor resolution.

Note this does mess with the small icons + text view... You wanna change the width to 50% to have that display right if you prefer that, but leaves some weird space to the large icon view. You can further mess with the width% to make for a much larger box, and even further tweaks explained in commented out code below can make for an entirely page-filling experience. XDb Whatever floats your boat. :3

NOTE, sometimes it'll go a lil' wonky when you edit and save... Reload the page and hit the browse button to load it fresh.

Just add a new style, give it a name and dump this on in:

SO YEAH. Hope these help a bit for folks. o/ If have any questions can comment here OR message me on my plurk! [plurk.com profile] nalina

(Disclaimer: I can't write javascript to save my life. I'm just good at google and figuring out how to use the info I find to do what I want it to. If anyone out there, who actually knows what they're doing, has any suggestions to improve this or even do it better, I am allll ears.)
